velocity is equal to 2-t m/s for time 0 to 2 sec and it will be equal to t-2 m/s for time 2 to 4 secs. Now here direction of velocity is always same so it will equal to speed now we can write speed as dx/dt. so for distance we need to integrate speed i.e, integrate 2-t from 0 to 2 sec and integrate t-2 from 2 to 4 secs.
on integrating total distance will be 2(from 1st integral) + 2(from 2nd integral) = 4 mtrs

A ball whose mass is 100 g is dropped from a height of 2 m from the floor. It rebounds vertically upwards after colliding with the floor to height 1.5 m. find (a)the momentum of the ball before and after colliding with the floor, (b) The average force exerted by the floor on the ball. Assume that collision lasts for 10-8 s.
