since according to simplification into partial fractions :-

1/ (x-a)(x-b)^2(x^2 - 1) = A/(x-a) + B/(x-b)^2 + Cx+D/ x^2 - 1.

we take cx+d because the degree of denominator is 2 ,

but we take only B while it's denominator has a degree of 2 .

why ?

[note : ^ denotes exponent ]

Answer Explanation

Because in this case, there is only 1 value of x for which expression is zero. or in simpe words when denominator is perfect square or cube as well, we take only one variable i.e. B in this case.
