The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board was formed as ‘West Bengal Board of Examination for Admission to Engineering Degree Colleges’ in the year 1962, born out of a concept of holding a common admission test for the Engineering Colleges of the State of West Bengal.

The basic purpose was to select candidates to be considered for admission to the State Colleges on the basis of the results of a single competitive examination which would also lead to saving of time, energy and expenditure on the part of the candidates in appearing at number of entrance tests.

BooksEligibility Criteria

1. The candidate must be of Indian nationality.

2. The candidate must also be clear pass in the class 12th examination with a PCM or PCB aggregate of atleast 40%.

3. The candidate must also have studied English upto class 12th level and should have scored a minimum of 30% marks.

4. For B.E/B.Tech./B.Arch, the candidate must have passed in PCM, English and any other fifth subject.

5. The minimum and maximum age of the candidate can be 17 years and 24 years.

It is the Entrance Test for admission to different degree level Engineering & Technology/ Dairy Technology/ Pharmacy/ Agricultural Engineering, etc as well as degree level Medical / Dental
courses in Universities / University Departments / Government colleges as well as Self Financing Colleges of the State of West Bengal.



The Examination “JEM-2009” will consist of following papers for admission to Engineering & Technology / B.Arch./ Dairy Technology / Agricultural Engineering /Pharmacy courses:

i) Mathematics (100 marks), ii) Physics (50 marks) & Chemistry (50 marks)

There will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ-type, with four options including single correct answer) carrying 80% weightage of the total marks and remaining 20% will be of short answer type.

In MCQ type, for each incorrect response, 33.33% of mark would be deducted and more than one answer indicated against one question will be treated as incorrect response/answer.

This is for information to all concerned that the Joint Entrance Examination
in the year 2010 (JEM – 2010) for admission to degree level courses in Medical
(M.B.B.S) / Dental (B.D.S) / Engineering / Technology (B.E / B.Tech) etc. in
different Universities / Colleges / Institutions in West Bengal will be held on
SUNDAY, the 18th APRIL, 2010 from 9.30 A.M.


The Application Form for the aforesaid examination will be available from the
month of November 2009.
